SETTING CONTEXT FRAGMENT
TIME: ETERNAL TWILIGHT (INABILITY TO BE READ BY DENIZENS)
PLACE: THE NEON DESERT (DESERT OF PURPLE SAND, SYNTHWAVE INFLUENCE)
PROTAGONIST: MAKO TAIKOMOCHI
```
She was running through the sands, trying her best not to worry about having to abandon her partner, even if temporarily. She had confidence in Velvet, though, who said they wouldn't mind keeping Ika company while she was out. She would love to have her there, truly, but this feels like something that needed to be dealt with one-on-one with her old man.
```
EVENT FRAGMENT
ACTION: UNKNOWN, IMPULSIVE
OPINION FROM PROTAGONIST: "Nobody else should know about this."
```
She retracted it back into the right side of her head. Yes, that would be what needed to be talked about. She'd probably discuss with Ika later, that's fine - right now, she needed to know why she was being lied to, and for what purpose.
She reached the door of the shack. Unchanged, yes, but she felt it wasn't a place of safety anymore. In lieu of knocking, she opened the door herself, damn near breaking it off its hinges. Inside was the lone grandfather to Mako, who was just about to sit down on his chair, holding himself with his cane.
He was surprised. "W-woah! Mako, what're 'ye doin' 'ere?"
Mako stomped a foot, pointing to the anomaly on her head. "What's this, huh?! What is this?? You know what this is?? It's my grandfather *lying* to me!"
Gramps put out his free hand, shaky. "Please, Mako, I-"
She stuck out her left arm, pointing at him. "No excuses! I want answers, old man!"
Mako had to step back a bit. "O-oh... I'm... I'm so sorry, this has been a *huge* misunderstanding, I-"
Gramps shook his head. "But ya' understand *why* I had to, right? T'was always about protecting ye'... Ye' know I would nev'r do anything to harm ya'..."
Mako felt really embarrassed now, holding one arm with another. She took a breath, before sighing it out. "It's... this is my fault, I shouldn't have stormed in here like that."
"No, no, Mako, it's my fault. I should've gotten 'ye calibrated properly and all that. Guess 't doesn't matt'r now, considering ye' went to live in a for'st 'n all."
```
EVENT FRAGMENT
ACTION: SINCERE EMBRACE
OPINION FROM PROTAGONIST: "I needed that."
```
A tear rolled down Mako's eye. "I love you, Gramps..."
Gramps patted her on her back. "Love you too, sweetie. It's alright, it'll be alright..."
Mako calmed herself down from the overwhelming emotions that were flying through her head. "Hey, I have until tomorrow before I need to get back to the group I've been following around. I was wondering... do you wanna spend some time together, just the two of us?"
Gramps was chuffed to bits at the idea, laughing from his belly. "Hohoho! That's the girl I know and love!" He steadied himself on his cane. "You know, I have been meaning to give you something..." Making sure not to ambulate over everything, Gramps took his crawl over to the kitchen. It wasn't something *super* clean - the sink had a couple of dirty dishes, and the fridge had some drawings from before Mako was born - but Gramps was mostly interested in the drawers.
Rifling through a couple of cupboards, he pulled out a pair of boxes.
```
DESCRIPTION FRAGMENT
TYPE: OBJECT
VISUALS: BLACK BOX, IMPRINTED DESIGN OF TABLET, IMPRINTED TEXT "SYNTHWIRE", RADIAL BACKGROUND - CENTRE LAVENDER
CONTENTS: SYNTHWIRE BRAND TELECOMMUNICATIONS DEVICE (BLACK), CHARGING CABLE, CABLE ADAPTER (STANDARD TO SELF), CABLE ADAPTER (STANDARD TO MANA)
```
Mako looked at all the items, outstretched in front of her on the counter, the other box just off to the side. "I appreciate this, Gramps, truly, but how did you find something like this?"
Gramps chuckled to himself a bit. "Just fell off 'o some guy's wagon, I'unno! An old man like me doesn't really need 'em, so they're yer's!"
Mako turned on the tablet. It started with a simple loading screen, before opening to a typical interface, with a couple of buttons. Mako was already familiar with these kinds of devices, so she just put it in her pocket, putting everything back in the box haphazardly, before retiring to the couch.
