The fire crackles under the moon. Though it, like everything, appears to be drawn in lines, it still gives off a familiar warmth. It's late at night, as if there could ever been an early in the evening, but still, traditions are followed.
Our trio is camping near the base of the mountain for the night. This is on request of Kayako, who never knew what camping was until now.
"Usually, you have, like, marshmallows and stuff to roast on the fire.", explained Mako. "I don't have any marshmallows, though..."
Ika searched through her backpack, looking for something. "No... No... No... Neither do I. Maks, you hungry?"
Mako nodded, and in response, Ika tossed over a bagged sandwich. "I made it myself. Fish and lettuce with sauce. I like it, but, I wanted to know what you think."
"You made this? Really?" Mako was a little shocked, but she didn't hesitate to take a bite, savoring the taste, before swallowing. "That's actually really good, sweetie. I didn't take you as the cooking type."
"I used to do some experimenting back in the Evergreens' base. Especially with potatoes..."
Kayako wanted to butt in. "Uh, what's a sandwich?"
Mako rolled her eyes, but relented. "It's like- here, actually, hold on." Using just her hands, she pulled her meal apart in two, though not perfectly, and held out the smaller piece so Kayako could eat it. Without much ado, he put the whole thing into his mouth, chewing on it. The taste was great, he thought - the lettuce complimented the fish well, giving the thing some much needed crunch, and the sauce was something in the realm of vinegar, which definitely added some much needed juice to the menagerie of flavor.
"You like it?", Ika asked, expectantly. It took a bit for Kayako to swallow, but swallow he did, and only responded with a pleasurable, "Mm-mmh! That was delicious! You made that, Ika?"
Ika nodded. "I did, yes. Usually it's Mako who's more of the chef type, though."
Mako blushed, flapping a hand downwards. "Oh, sweetie..."
Some time passed. The trio enjoyed the ambiance of the fire and the woods. Though everything was unfamiliar, it was still nice to enjoy the cycle of the sun and the moon, something that Ika knew she needed much more of. Yes, less combat, and more nature, more humanity, more magic...
"Kayako.", Ika said. "Can I ask you another question about this world?"
"Can I stop you?"
"Not really. Do you guys have magic here?"
"Uh... Magic? No. We have text?"
"Text?"
Kayako sighed. "Man, you *really* aren't from here. It's what runs our world. You create rules from it, and it does... most anything. Make more food, make rocks walk... You guys don't have it?"
Mako shook her head no. "Nuh-uh! Just, like, spells and robots n' stuff."
Something clicked in Kayako's mind. "Oh! We do have robots! I think you guys saw some on the mountain, right?"
"Well, yeah, but..." Mako chose her words carefully. Though Ika knew, she didn't want to just tell people about... *that*, willy-nilly. "They're not like our robots. Ours are more boxy, more rigid, and sometimes they can be cyborgs, too. It was a whole debacle, you should have been there!"
"Robots and magic and... hm..." The idea intrigued Kayako. Mako was correct - The Plane, the world from which they come from, was indeed swarming with all kinds of fantastical elements, at least, in comparison to Kayako's world. A thought then crossed his mind - if Ika and Mako could come *here*, could he perhaps go there...? He shook off the idea for now.
Ika stretched her arms. "I'm gonna call it a night. Mako?"
"I'll be there in a second, sweetie. Let me just get some pajamas on for the night."
Ika went to set up a sleeping cot for the evening, but then noticed Kayako. "Hey, bud, did you need somewhere to sleep? I think if Mako and I share a bed, you could have one."
"It's fine. I don't need it."
"Well, uhm..." Ika was visibly flustered. "You should probably not sleep near us, though. Just trust me."
"Alright... I am a bit tired. Goodnight, Ika!"
"Night, Kaya'."
Kayako walked a considerable distance from the fire, and being a denizen, he just laid himself down on the ground to rest. It's what he was used to. The people of this world are often nomadic, never really having a home to claim for themselves. It's... something he missed? But he never had a home... but, the idea of sleeping somewhere permanently had this odd appeal to him.
Maybe he should go with them, once they leave.
